開店当初からごひいきいただいているお客様のなかに、ご主人様はドイツの方、奥様は日本の方というご夫婦がいらっしゃいます。それぞれに美術工芸や食文感など多岐にわたりご活躍で、最近、活動の拠点を東京から京都に移されたとのこと、私もうれしく思っているところです。
それはそれは素敵なお二人、ご来店の折にお話しできることをいつも楽しみにしているのですが、先日、奥様からこんなお話を伺いました。
京都に住まう七十歳の女性の「わたしらが日日（にちにち）の生活に使うものは…」という言葉に、ご主人様がいたく感銘を受けられたとのこと。それをヒントにご自身のギャラリーを「日日（にちにち）」と名付けられたというのです。
「わたしらが日日（にちにち）の生活に使うものは…」とは、普段使いの食器だったり、生活道具だったり、食材だったりを指すのでしょうか。特別な日のような華やかさはないけれど、愛着ある身の回りのものたち。
どこかで聞いたことがあるような。そう言われれば知っているけれど、敢えては使わなくなった言葉です。
かつてはハレの日とケの日がはっきりと分かれていたように思います。ハレの日の代表と言えばお正月ですが、とても特別な日に感じていたのは、私が子供だったからばかりではないでしょう。
一方で、一年の大部分を占めるケの日、特別ではない普通の日です。「わたしらが日日（にちにち）の生活に使うものは…」という言葉には、そんななんでもない一日一日を丁寧に、愛おしむように暮らしてきた古き良き日本人の暮らしぶりが表現されているように思います。
このほんの短い言葉から立ちのぼる、えも言われぬ風情。日日（ひび）とは少し違う、日日（にちにち）という音（おん）の持つ趣。こんな美しい日本語があったんだと思いました。眠っていた記憶が呼び覚まされたような、懐かしい感覚です。
それにしてもドイツ人であるご主人様がいたく感銘を受けられたという、その感性には驚くばかり。日本の良さは外国の方に、京都の良さは他府県の方に教わる毎日です。
そんなお話を聞かせてくださった奥様、ただ今発売中の「婦人画報」8月号に掲載されていらっしゃいます。まさに「日日（にちにち）の…」を体現されているような素敵な暮らしぶり。舞台はここ京都、寺町です。
行きつけのお店として「しののめ寺町」をご紹介いただいています。素敵な日日のひとこまに、うちのじゃこ山椒を添えていただいている幸せ。本当にありがたいことです。
